​Charlotte's Crown Tree Awards

The Charlotte Tree Advisory Commission, on behalf of the mayor and city council, recognize outstanding projects and people that have a positive impact on the tree canopy of the Queen City. Nominations may be made by anyone and are due the 4th Monday in May each year for consideration. The awards are presented in June at a televised City Council Meeting.


  • Tree preservation - Recognizes efforts to protect and maintain individual trees, stands of forest or areas of tree canopy.
  • Tree planting - Commends exceptional initiatives and innovations in tree planting that includes species diversity with an emphasis on native species.
  • Advocacy - Honors those who speak out on behalf of Charlotte's trees by raising awareness of the benefits of trees and the issues pertaining to the tree canopy.
  • Education - Spotlights individuals or institutions that teach the benefits of trees and healthy tree canopy or advance the knowledge of trees through research and its application.
